The Aran Islands are located off the coast of Galway, on the very edge of Europe. Comprised of three islands (Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Óirr), the group are rich in Irish language, culture and heritage. You can visit the Aran Islands by taking a ferry at Rossaveal, or by flying from Connemara Regional airport located near Inverin.
The most well-known site on Inishmore (Inis Mór) is the stone fortress of Dun Aonghasa, which is the largest of the prehistoric stone forts of the Aran Islands. Inishmann (Inis Meáinin, meaning the "the middle island") is also rich in history, being home to Kilcanonagh Church, Templemurray, and fragments of Templeshaghtmacree. Inishere (Inis Óirr, meaning "the south island") is the smallest of the three Aran islands with a population of only about 300 people.
