Waterford has a population of 45,000 and is the capital of the South East region. It is also the oldest city in the country. The city was founded during the Viking invasion in the 9th Century and became the centre of a trading route that extended far in to Europe and other countries. Many of the oldest an most intriguing monument in the city are the walls and towers of the original Viking settlement and Reginalds Tower.
Nowadays it is a vibrant city and port. One of the city's most famous exports is the world famous Crystal which has been both crafted and hand cut within the city limits for over 220 years.
