| About Springs Hotel and Golf Club |
Nestling deep within the beautiful South Oxfordshire region between Reading and Oxford, the Springs Hotel, with which the Springs Golf Course is closely connected, is a fine example of a Victorian Tudor-Style Country house. Built in 1874 it overlooks a spring-fed lake in its own majestic gardens. It is the ideal place for a relaxing gathering, meal or overnight stay following your efforts on the golf course. Other facilities the hotel offers, include a putting green, croquet lawn, coarse fishing on the banks of the Thames, a sauna and an outdoor heated swimming pool. All 31 ensuite bedrooms are furnished and decorated to a high standard and provide all modern facilities required by todays discerning guest. Superior rooms are available and comprise the extra luxury of spa baths in addition to the scenic views overlooking the golf course towards the River Thames.
The Lakeside restaurant has an intimate atmosphere inspired by its gentle décor and the lovely view of the lake. The award-winning restaurant's menu takes advantage of fresh local produce. International wines provide the perfect accompaniment to a splendid meal. The Lakeside Restaurant boasts a prestigious 2 AA Rosette standard award, a three course meal starts from around £25.00 per person. A pianist or harpist entertains diners on every Friday , Saturday and Sunday Lunch.
Within the superb landscape lie three lakes and challenging wetland areas which add to the attraction of the 18-hole golf course. Should you still feel energetic after your golf then you could take a stroll along the "Ridgeway" walk or you could take out one of the hotel's mountain bikes and explore the surrounding area. The Springs Golf Course is set in 133 acres of parkland (officially designated an area of outstanding natural beauty) bordered by the river Thames.
The Springs Hotel is considered by archaeologists to be on a site of a Roman forum (a place of assembly) within a Roman settlement. Indeed it is thought that the bank on which the house stands may have served as a Roman Vallum against invasion. Sir Alexander Condie Stephens, CMG - a member of the Royal Household spotted the potential of the site with its wonderful views of the Thames Valley, and in 1874 built the Springs, one of the first houses in England to be built in the Mock Tudor style.
