Casares is a pretty white village perched on a hillside, which stretches to the foot of an Arabic fort, one of the many civilizations to have left their imprint here. It is also the village where Blas Infante, the father of Andalusian patrimony, was born.
Its unusual streets, intricate and steep, and quaint little houses, have led to Casares being named "The Dangling Village", and the fact that it was declared an Historical-Artistic Village in 1978 is additional proof of the beauty of this Málaga landmark.
Its unique attraction stems not only from its position on the White Village route but from its proximity to the historic and beautiful towns of Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Ronda, and the Sierra Nevada ski resort.
How to get there:
•From Málaga, on the AP-7 motorway to Algeciras. Take exit 153 at Estepona's Industrial Estate and then the main dual carriageway, the 'Nacional' 340 to Algeciras as far as km. 146 where you come to an intersection with the local Casares dual carriageway, the MA-546, leading up 14 kms. to the village.
•From Gibraltar: on the Estepona -Guadiaro stretch of the Mediterranean motorway, take the Manilva exit, and then the A-377 dual carriageway to Gaucín, until you come to a crossroad where you take the MA-528, leading directly to the village.
Airports: Málaga Airport is a 45-minute drive on the AP-7 motorway.
